Welcome to the world Sophie Marie Whitfield!!

At 6:43am this morning Elizabeth gave birth to a beautiful 7lb 8oz baby girl...and only after a mere 14 hours of labor! Here are a few photos of our little one and there will be many more photos and updates to come.

Elizabeth & Sophie (& me :) are recovering for the next 24 hours at Overlake hospital and we can't wait to get her home tomorrow.

Week 39

This is how I really feel about being this huge!

These photos are from the golf course; today I drove along in the golf cart with Doug as he played 18 holes. It was a beautiful, fall day, and we both benefitted from being out in the fresh air! This has been quite the week. On Tuesday, my doctor confirmed what I had been feeling: the baby has dropped LOW and everything is ready to go! Without going into unnecessary details, there is quite a bit of pain "down there" now that she is resting so low. On Wednesday, I began having moderate cramping and a dramatic increase in Braxton Hicks contractions. Doug and I were both convinced that she was quickly on her way! I even stayed home from school on Thursday, but we're still waiting...and waiting...and waiting. I'm not too comfortable at any point. I grunt, I swear, I moan, I complain. Now, you understand why I came up with the idea to go play golf. Doug needed some well deserved relaxation after a week of anticipation, impatience, and me....

The Big Momma To Be.

Week 38

We wake up every morning and wonder if today is the day that our baby girl will enter the world! Doug and I have been really enjoying our final days as a two-person and 1 cat household. This weekend has been perfect: cozy and late mornings, Doug's homemade meals, football, rain, a matinee ("Where the Wild Things Are" at the IMAX theatre!), lots of laughs...D and I hope that our next blog entry includes an introduction to our baby girl. The first 8 months flew by, but these final weeks have been progressing at a snail's pace. We stare at the swing, the bouncer, the crib, her cute clothes; all of these pieces are ready and seem so empty and lonely without her!

Baby Update

We had an ultrasound today to check the baby girl's size. My uterus had been measuring small for several weeks in a row, so our doctor wanted to get a more accurate look at her size. Remember, I haven't been measuring small; I continue to swell, so we were not sure why my uterus hadn't been growing....

Well, not only is baby healthy, but she is also big!! They estimate her current size to be 7 pounds, 3 ounces! And I still have technically 3 weeks to go/grow! No wonder I'm uncomfortable!

Kidding aside, Doug and I are very thankful that she is healthy and strong. She appears to have a full head of hair, too. We hadn't "seen" her since our 20 week ultrasound, so we really enjoyed today's opportunity to watch our apparently hefty and hairy baby girl! Haha....

Knowing that she is already so big reaffirms my desire to get her out!

Week 37

My wonderful friends and colleagues from Bothell HS threw me a shower Thursday after school. I'm always amazed by the generosity and compassion of people. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Also, if you recall my previous post about my family's competition to guess the due date, my father-in-law believes that our baby girl will be making her entrance later this week. As of last week, I'm officially exhausted with pregnancy, so bring on my baby girl! We are ready!!! I know that this baby will be making her entrance soon. It's difficult to put into words, but I FEEL different. Although I am more uncomfortable and have far less energy, I've noticed other changes. I'm sure other moms out there understand what I'm struggling to express. Things have changed this week and I'm confident that she's on her way.

(It's easy to tell from my facial expression in the photo that I've hit the wall....luckily I have an amazing husband who has been as patient as humanly possible with me. Also, all of my shirts are too short, so I bare midriff; this explains why I had to keep the sweatshirt on for the photo shoot this afternoon. This belly is too big!)
