Honorable Mentions:
1. During "Earth Week" at preschool, Cameron's teachers asked the class what they could do to help keep the Earth clean. Cameron raised his hand and announced, "Use Clorox wipes!"
2. Sophie has been a rockstar kindergartner this spring, balancing piano and dance and Girl Scouts and golf and T-Ball. We have two T-Ball games a week, so our Monday and Wednesday evenings are spent at the fairgrounds where she works so hard and always does her best. The coach has mentioned what great instincts she has. And it's true. This girl can do it all!! That said, she is exhausted and cannot wait for summer when she can read books all day long without any responsibilities!
3. We were kicking the soccer ball in the backyard after dinner one evening when a teenage girl and her Great Dane puppy walked by. The puppy was a HUGE black and white dog, and without missing a beat, Cameron yelled, "Look at that COW!!!" The girl broke into hysterics, and we all had a good laugh. This kid cracks us up!
4. On a more serious note, we started talking about God and Heaven one night during dinner. Cameron spoke about that week's Bible lesson at school, and Sophie began asking some serious and thoughtful questions. In a moment Doug and I will never forget, we saw a flash in Sophie's eyes as she truly comprehended her own mortality. And she started sobbing. But, in a typical 6-year old response, she began sobbing that she was so sad that she wouldn't get to see more inventions. She didn't want to be in heaven and not see future inventions. Doug and I (both in tears) reassured her that she would live a long and full life, surrounded by many more inventions. Obviously, she wasn't just thinking about inventions, but it's so sweet how she expressed her reaction based on no longer seeing new inventions...
5. And back to entertainment.... Doug and Cameron spent a quick evening with another father-son duo in a yurt at some incredible sand dunes. The boys trip included cheetos, sand, and Daddy-- (in no particular order), Cameron's favorites!. They stayed up late at the observatory looking at planets ("Jupiters") and stars. Doug squeezed this Friday night in between two back to back work trips. Both Daddy and Cameron needed and appreciated the extra time together!
