Reunited

Follow up from last week's post.....

In preparation for Connor's visit, Sophie tried on many clothing options. She needed to find just the right accessories.

(On a sweet side note, Doug was too excited to sleep the night before Sophie and Connor's reunion; he woke up at 4 am and couldn't go back to sleep!)

Then, the big moment arrived.

The playdate was filled with kisses. Our little girl doesn't hold back....

There was a lot of screaming and silly time. These two kids love to squeal at such high pitches!

Such a tender moment.....chaperoned by the father of the daughter.

Doug took them to the playground...

...and they played dress up.

After her amazing date with her boyfriend, Sophie was motivated and joyful the rest of the weekend!

She was inspired to take on some big projects in the yard.

And, she tackled some bathroom painting.

We love you, Sophie! You crack us up...

Broken Heart and Bleeding Gums

Sophie has had a difficult week. In addition to getting her terrible-two molars ("teeth owie"), Sophie also has a broken heart. Her best friend and first love, Connor, was blessed with a baby brother, so our friend/nanny, Erica, now has two sons! That means that while I'm at work, Sophie has a different routine. We now have a great nanny-share situation, but the adjustment to a new house with a new nanny and a new friend has been hard for Sophie. Multiple times a day, Sophie still asks for Connor, and on several occasions, both Doug and I have teared up as we try to explain to her that Connor and his momma are at their house. Each morning this week when Connor and Erica would normally arrive, Sophie runs to the door to wait for them. And each night, when we sing her goodnight lullaby, she still asks for Connor's name to be in the song. Her teeth and her heart hurt :(

So what does a 19-month old girl do when she's heartbroken?

...she feels like she's living behind bars.

...she eats away her sorrows at a French bakery with her mommy.

...contemplates the meaning of life in this vast world.

...meditates and feels alone.

...accepts material gifts from Grandma.

...passes the time with futile tasks.

...gets all dressed up and struts her stuff like a model (actions first, motives second).

...seeks solace in nature while still sporting the kimono.

So, what did the daddy-of-the-year do to comfort his daughter? He arranged a surprise playdate for Sophie and Connor later this week! He will be the sole parent playing with these two best friends. So sweet. Look how excited she is now!!!

She's beautiful and silly and hysterical and intelligent all wrapped up in one little body.

Heart overload for this little girl...

It's Raining, It's Pouring...

...this weather is boring.

According to the powers-that-be, Seattle has had only 26 dry days since we rang in 2011. That has made for a wet, wet winter and spring. Sophie, Mommy, and Daddy are tired of this weather and ready for outdoor, dry adventures.

How does a toddler pass the time when she's stuck inside?? She...

A. Eats ice cream cones

B. Paints masterpieces

C. Jumps in puddles in pajamas

D. Shucks peas
