Week 22

Summer is here!! I've been going on long, daily walks, working in the garden, catching up with friends, and watching the number on the scales grow! Doug, baby, and I are healthy and happy.

A Room of Her Own

6 years ago as Doug and I started our first home search, he bought me a book entitled A Room of Her Own. The design book shares ideas about creating a space in a home just for the woman, a space for her to relax, rest, and celebrate her interests. I have loved my Room of My Own for 5 years. I call it my Library. Doug has his shop with his dart board and tools; I have my room of books, favorite photos, clothes/jewelry, and a girly chandelier! It's time to transform the room of my own into a new room of HER own: my baby girl's nursery. I'm excited for the redesign as I envision many, many nights of nursing, changing diapers, and reading in this room. I'll post photo updates as I spend the summer transitioning this special room. For the sake of posterity, here is my current library:

Week 21

Our baby girl continues to grow and thrive! In the past 24 hours, she has shifted considerably to the right side making me a lopsided, pregnant woman. I don't have a kidney on the right side, so I think she has found the area that gives her the most space to move around and kick, kick, kick.

Doug was able to celebrate his first Father's (to be) Day by watching the US Open and enjoying a couple beers. Doug will be the most amazing father! Our little girl will fish and golf with him, learn her manners, play the guitar, laugh at his stupid jokes...she will be one lucky Baby Girl Whitfield.

PS. We have officially retired the name "Slash"....she is definitely a "SHE" and there is no need for the s/he title. Her name will remain a secret until birth, so please tell my mom to stop asking! haha....

Week 19-Part 2

I needed to post a belly shot this week. Here are some great comments that I have been told this week: 1. "Are you totally SURE you're not having twins?" 2. "I was glad to hear that you're pregnant. I saw you at a couple meetings and just thought you were gaining some weight." 3. "You're right! You are thickening up everywhere, not just your belly."

So, the first sentence of this post should have been: "I needed to post a belly/butt/boobs/arms/face/thigh/ankle shot this week."

Week 19

My dad's back home! Doug and I had the special honor of being the first family members to meet Dad at Sea-Tac on Sunday night as he returned from Bagram, Afghanistan. It was emotional and exhilarating! We are so proud of my dad and thankful for his service to our country. Dad and Slash "met" for the first time. I think they already love one another :)

I celebrated my 29th birthday this past week. Next year, as many of you reminded me, I'll celebrate my birthday with my sweet baby in my arms.

Speaking of this baby: Monday, June 15th, 2009 at 3:15 pm, Doug and I learn Slash's gender. Stay tuned...

My body changes every day and this child of mine continues to grow. Quite honestly, I do not know how my body will find room for him/her over the next 19 weeks! Despite some swollen ankles and fingers during Seattle's heat wave last week, I've been feeling great. I've made a chalkboard on the door to the nursery (currently, my library). On the chalkboard, I've written a GIANT list of everything Doug and I need to do before November 1st. Items range from major expenditures to pediatrician searches to Goodwill drop-offs to goodbyes to my personal library! I love lists and every time I walk by this door, I become giddy!

Please try to contain your excitement for Baby Whitfield Gender Watch 2009. I'd like for you to sleep better than I am. I'm too excited to sleep!
