S is for SICK

This week has been a very different week around the Whitfield household. While Doug was in Jordan riding camels.......

(seriously, that's his calf riding a camel in the Middle East!!).....

Sophie got the flu. She has never been this sick and unfortunately, 6 days later, she is still recovering. My mom flew over one night to help me, I stayed home from work to nurse the little S, and Doug had no time to recover from his jet lag before he was put on sick duty. On several occasions, I felt confident I must be on some hidden camera show; I was running up stairs with towels, doing loads of laundry at lightening speeds, cleaning up one mess just as another one landed on my newly changed clothes. A sick baby girl makes for mayhem! The germs have conquered me and are now working their magic on Doug.

Today, Sophie had more energy and posed in her jammies for some of these photos. She wants to make sure that the blog community knows she's working hard to be healthy and strong for her birthday in 2 weeks!!

Sunday Reading

Today, it was just Sophie and Mommy. We stayed in our pajamas all day long. When Sophie napped, I napped. We giggled, tickled, played, imitated, snacked, sang, drummed, cuddled, and READ a lot!

Here, Sophie is reading the summary on the back cover to double check that the book "Baby Animals" is in fact really about baby animals.


Our 11 month old is so smart that she can even read books upside down.




She sat in her rocking chair with this book for nearly 10 minutes. About half way through, she pulled her feet up to get even more comfortable. So adorable!!


Although you cannot tell from the tongue sticking out, she was actually pointing to the sheep and saying "aaaaaaaaa."



Later in the day, Sophie abandoned "Baby Animals" in favor of some heavier reading...

An Apple a Day....

Today, Sophie must have overheard me calling her pediatrician's office to make her 1-year checkup appointment for next month. She must also know what they say about apples and doctors....

So, after a long afternoon battling an incoming molar and subsequently, no nap, Sophie climbed into the fridge to rummage around until she found that healthy apple.

Heart Overload

Sophie's MB, (Doug's mum) was in town this past week to love Sophie and to love us. We appreciated every moment with her. One of the many things she did for us was to take lots and lots of photos of our munchkin. Here are just a few...I had a difficult time choosing!

As an early 1st birthday present for Soph, Cathy bought us a hiking backpack. This weekend, we went on a morning walk through the Arboretum to try out the new gift. THANK YOU, CATHY/MB!!

We have heart overload for this girl.
