BOI---GEG

Cam got distracted by the airplane ("uh-uh" for up) which resulted in some naked hose time after this photo.

Last week, the kids and I flew from Boise to Spokane to spend the week with my parents.  Although we have been fortunate enough to see my parents several times since this move, we were all looking forward to summer fun with Grandma and Papa!  We packed the week with trips to the playground and parks, yummy muffins at the neighborhood bakery and sandwiches at the park's cafe, a ride on the carousel and the Riverfront Park train, time at the children's museum, "back to school" shoe shopping, and hours and hours of SWIMMING!  Sophie and Papa spent every evening after dinner having water fights in the pool; they splashed and splashed one another and I could hear Sophie's giggles and squeals upstairs when I would put Cameron down for bed.  Sophie was in heaven with two grandparents entertaining her! And Cameron realized that Papa is pretty much the funniest person to imitate.  It was amazing to see Cam observe Papa's gestures and facial expressions and then mock copy Papa. I cannot describe the week in any other word beyond FUN! We just had a fun, fun time together.  Although we were sad to leave, we were excited to see Doug.  On the flight home, Sophie told the lady sitting next to us that she missed her Daddy. Then, Sophie said, "I love Daddy. I just love every part of his body."

The week started with Sophie running down the airport hallway and into Grandma's arms.  Cameron followed with his waddle-run-walk and gave his classic hug (have I shared that he gives the most amazing hugs?!) and open mouthed kiss.  The week ended with Sophie running through the Boise airport and into Daddy's waiting arms.  Cameron again followed with his waddle-run-walk and squealed "Dadda-Dadda!"

These two have such a sweet relationship.

Papa took Sophie (and Mudgy bear) on an adventure to Fairchild Airforce Base to see the planes.

Sophie and Mudgy had the best stories to share about these big planes!
Papa and Sophie's date was deemed "Adventure 1" b/c future summer adventures await.  So special.
Grandma and Sophie enjoyed a fancy tea party.  I couldn't separate these two the entire week-- Sophie becomes Grandma's shadow when they're together (which is the way it should be)!

These trucks provided HOURS of entertainment. This boy loves his trucks.  He couldn't stop babbling and pointing at the construction action outside my parent's house.

These kids don't look too happy....I admit that I made them sit in this contraption for a photo-opp.

There is something so magical about Spokane in the summertime.  My heart and mind overflow with memories and experiences from my childhood.  I feel so fortunate that my children will also be able to share in some of those when we visit my parents and my childhood home.  Sophie and Cameron played toys that their Mommy and Uncle Chris enjoyed for years, they get to enjoy special dates with my parents, and they can better understand how I became the most awesome mommy in the world! I do love Spokane....but I truly feel that Boise is my home now.

After we returned from Spokane and before Daddy left for a work trip, we squeezed in a family hike.

Yep, that's right! My 14-month old refused to sit in the hiking backpack.  This little dude hiked the entire way with us!! He was red, sweaty, and grinning from ear to ear.

Doug must really love me b/c he taped The Open rather than watch it live so that we could hike as a family.  xoxo

We have officially entered the stage when Cameron copies everything Sophie does. In this case: sand scribbling.

My boys!

Sophie asked to stop every 1-2 minutes saying "I need to stay hydrated."

More Summer Adventures on the horizon....am I horrible if I admit that I am getting really ready for Fall to arrive? Cooler temperatures....routine and structure... cozy evenings... children who are less dirty and sandy and sunscreen-y?

Snapshots: July 4th Weekend

Happy 4th of July!!
Ready for the neighborhood bike parade
Cam's obsession with the firetrucks in the street prevented eye contact in this photo.
The Minahan family came to visit us for the long 4th of July weekend!
Despite this photo's appearance, the street was packed for the parade.. I promise!
The neighborhood 4th party post-parade
4th BBQ and pool party at my brother's house

Our weekend with the Minahans included a lot of outdoor play with the 4 kids.

the 2 Whitfield kids and the 2 Minahan kids

Sophie could barely contain her excitement at meeting Humphrey Hawk at our first Boise Hawks game.
Sophie's friend, Mason, and his parents joined us too.

S wore her pink Seattle Seahawks jersey to the Hawks baseball.

Oh, freedom!!

Camping Trip 1: 1232.5 mi

We have just returned from our first family camping trip.  We reunited with our good friends, the Volks, at Birch Bay campground near the WA-Canada border.  It was a long drive (1,232.5 miles in total), but every hour after hour in the car was worth it.  It was a fun-filled camping weekend! Sophie and Cameron love Quinn (whose younger sister didn't join us).  Sophie and Quinn enjoyed riding their bikes around the campground, exploring the beach to find the perfect rocks or pinching crabs, roasting hot dogs and marshmellows, and sleeping in their cozy tents.  Cameron was in heaven at a campground--dirt, rocks, trucks, fire, sticks, dogs, and other hazardous materials. He came home with mud in every crevass of his body, skinned knees and shins, and a permanently messy face.  Taking a 13-month old on a camping trip isn't the easiest thing in the world, but the boy had fun! I grew up camping with my family, and I'm so excited that my children are now creating those memories.  There is nothing better than smelling like campfire smoke, having a sore back from sleeping on the ground, and listening to the chatter of fellow campers as the sun finally sets.  Camping is hard work (and add two kids into the mix and it's even harder!), but I look forward to many more summer weekends spent camping with my family and friends.

In other non-camping news:

We made edible paint.

The Whitfield 4 visited the zoo.

We had friends over for a fun playdate.  Can you tell which blurry and active baby is Cameron?
Sophie and Tatum ditched the baby brothers in diapers and got all dolled up.
We have scientifically confirmed where Cameron gets his sense of adventure and tendency toward skinned knees.
